If you been on Twitter, Facebook, or any other social media website you mostly likely heard about the March For Science. This will be a watered-down explanation of what's going on and why this matter.
To start, if you haven't lived under a rock for the past week the March For Science is a week long event where people all around the world stand up and march to promote the importance of science and advocate for more funding for scientific research and evidence based policies. It started on Earth Day (April 22nd) and ends this Saturday, April 29th. This event was created by Caroline Weinberg, Valorie Aquino, and Jonathan Berman with Honorary Co-Chairs Bill Nye, Mona Hanna-Attisha, and Lydia Villa-Komaroff. The march was made to bring up the important issues which include: climate change, government transparency, and evolution. The event, while aimed at promoting science, also has participants who are a bit anti-Trump.
Now you may be asking yourself, “why should i care?” Well, long story short the future will be heavily impacted by the effects of the past. If we pass laws that allow too much drilling and carbon emission, and disregard laws that regulate the overuse of natural resources, the future of our civilization will have to inevitably pay for these careless actions. The march’s goal is to spread awareness of what science does for you everyday, as well as providing the support of laws that are based on scientific fact.
