Senior night for the men’s volleyball team was Tuesday night against Rosamond High School. As well as being the final home game in TPAA history in our current campus, it was the final volleyball game many of these outgoing Seniors will ever play representing the Griffins. The night started out emotionally as the school honored the upcoming graduates for their contributions to building the program from literally nothing! One couldn’t help but feel bitter sweetly for this dedicated group of guys and many faces in the crowd were teary eyed before the game even started.
Feeding off of the emotions swirling around on Tuesday night, the Griffins rallied and battled to scratch out a win against the Roadrunners to end the home slate for the year. For the team, beating a school in a higher division than them must have been quite the confidence booster they needed after quite a down year for the program due to the expectations coming into the season.
The victory may have tasted that much sweeter for Senior, Jared Barrera-Cruz, who showed up big for the team in the win. This being his final game at home and also turning in such a stellar performance in this game, he earned the coveted title of “player of the week.” Hopefully this outing will push the guys to finish the season with a winning streak as their next game is today in Crescenta Valley.
