Based on the U.K. series, The Office is a documentary style show which focuses on the staff workers of Dunder-Mifflin Paper Company run by Regional Manager, Michael Scott in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The show consists of 9 seasons and each season and character has never disappointed. From every conference room meeting Michael has organized to Jim confessing his love for Pam, each character on the show has their own unique spark in their personality that gives the show more life to it. Here are 5 of our favorite characters from The Office that we think gives life to the show.

1) Michael Scott
As Regional Manager of Dunder-Mifflin Scranton, Michael Scott, played by Steve Carrell, is one hell of a boss. He’s fun, he’s hip, and he hates when people don’t like him. Michael can be annoying and sometimes comes off as a bit arrogant (not to mention ignorant as well), but he is literally a child inside of an adult body. Michael may be the most annoying/sweetest character, but one thing you can count on from Michael, is loyalty.

2) Jim Halpert
Jim Halpert is most likely to be the only “normal” character on the show. As portrayed by John Krasinski, all Jim ever does in the show is droll over Pam, pull pranks on his co workers like Dwight, and of course sells paper. Any obnoxious event happening in the show, you know Jim is apart of it. If Jim isn’t giving you a reason to watch the show, let’s hope his iconic facial expression he makes at the camera whenever someone says something idiotic gives you a reason to watch this hilarious show!

3) Pam Beesly
Pam is one of the most inspiring, and has certainly grown the most. In the first few seasons, Pam, played by Jenna Fischer, is portrayed as reserved, lacking both the self-confidence and courage to make real changes in her life. In these episodes her love life consists of her being too afraid to confront her true feelings. Her self-confidence begins to grow after she calls off the wedding and is left without Jim in the office. She finally gets to experience being on her own, and although she still misses Jim, it gives her the opportunity to discover herself as the funny, kind-hearted woman she is. Pam continues to take steps towards self-improvement by enrolling in art school and starting a family with Jim. There are times we see Pam struggle with her art career and her marriage, but these moments only serve to show the strength and resilience Pam holds.

4) Dwight Schrute
Dwight Schrute is considered the office oddball, and the target of the majority of Jim's pranks. As portrayed by Rainn Wilson, Dwight is intelligent, self-sufficient, loyal and successful at Dunder Mifflin, winning top salesman on a number of occasions. His talents really show off. He sees himself as Michael's number 2 in the office, he takes himself very seriously. Dwight is essentially kind, and means well, however he is just socially inept. We see his kindness when he comforts Pam in the lobby when she is crying, and even when he kills Angela's cat, seeing it as putting it out of its misery.

5) Kelly Kapoor
Last, but certainly not least, we have Kelly Kapoor. Kelly, played by Mindy Kaling, is a complete teenager at heart. Obsessing over then men in the office, talking way too much, being completely honest with people, and gossiping with her co workers is what Kelly is all about. She lives for the drama. Good or bad, and even if the drama involves herself. Kelly is super emotional and it is always about her. Like when one of the characters gets married, Kelly shows up in a white dress when you’re obviously not supposed to match with the bride. Although she did have a good excuse, and I quote, “I look really good in white.” Of course everyone has trouble with love, but with Kelly, anything that gets in her way is totally dead. Even though she seems tough on the outside, she’s a total baby on the inside.
