So if you haven't been either Binge watching shows or been living under a rock you have heard the concerns that there may be a war with North Korea. You also have been asking yourself “what are the chances?” Well here they are.
So to start, if we are gonna talk about the chances of a war happening ,we first need to talk about the present and the past. For the past few weeks, North Korea has been furthering Nuclear missile test for “Defensive reasons”.This has caused neighboring countries and the U.S to become somewhat concerned, calling for the test to end primarily being South Korea and Japan . North Korea refused to, as the tests were for defensive reasons. Now, back in the Obama administration, Obama was very calm and favored indirect fighting, from blocking trade all around North Korea and ignoring the North’s threats. Now that was then. Trump our new president, Has taken a more aggressive stance, sending troops to the Japanese sea, east of Korea. Trump has also talked about how, the U.S if needed, will fight North Korea.
But what are the chances of a war with North Korea? The short answer is -- low. The long history based answer is -- a maybe. Now this does require some information on the Korean war, so hang tight. To make this quick, back in the times of the Cold war and The Red Scare, America hated communism as more and more countries were turning communists. America feared that communism would take over. North Korea was one of the communist nations which caused a split among the country: the side that favored communism and the side that didn’t. The U.S. hating communism, decided to help the South which caused the North’s hatred for the United states. To recap the war, nothing changed, both sides still have as much territory as it started but North Korea got a friend in China and a few ties with Russia, which was formerly a part of the Soviet Union. During the cold war, all three countries were communist.
Now this means if the U.S. starts a fight with North Korea, China will get involved and maybe even Russia. Which then leads to other countries like England to start helping its allies, like the U.S. Such contributions would obviously lead to WW3. While all of this looks grim, this isn't a reason to and buy a bunker, it just means that we have to trust our leaders in making the best decisions and hoping that both sides understand what war would mean, and how drastic the consequences are.
