Recently 38 parents have graduated from PIQE ( The Parents Institute For Quality Education Program )and have receive Certificate of completion for their efforts.
PIQE is a program made to help encourage and empower parents of student from Tpaa by giving them the information and resources need to help better the students here. The program is being lead by Ms Graham and Ms Field. To better explain what PIQE does: it's a program for parents which helps them understand some of the terms we hear everyday from Gpa ,to scholarships ,to even why you need good grades for college.
The Program goes on for 8 sessions or 2 months and a single session is two hours, they often start in the afternoon. Coffee and snacks are given out to those who come. The lessons are based off grades so one session could be about 7-8 grade, while another is high school. The lessons also feature a bilingual setting of english and spanish so if a parent can only speak one language they don't miss out. But the program does face problems, often parents can't come to the sessions due to being tired, don't have rides, or just get back from work. When asked what the most common problem in which these parents faced was, Ms.Graham said that the meeting are very far at times. But even with all these problems parents still come and learn everything they can. Recently 38 parents have received Certificates for completing the program, a low number compared to last years 49-50.
While the numbers is low the efforts still stand strong. Now that parents have been empowered with the knowledge they have learned in hopes of further supporting their kids.
