Letter to My High School Self

Dear Diana,

It's you, well me from the future and you've grown a lot ( well not physically because you're still short) Sorry to get your hopes up but you'll learn to love those torture devices called heels. Newsflash high school isn't anything like High School Musical. Anyways, to sum up everything, High School is going to be fun… it will be stressful and challenging and difficult, but you'll get through it. So first off let's talk academics; keep your grades up and don't slack off you'll thank me for this later. Please whatever you do DON'T PROCRASTINATE! Especially when it comes to college applications and scholarship deadlines. Please take the SAT more than twice.. And take a few subject tests.

Be involved in your school community by joining as many clubs as you can. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to join 2 robotics teams, key club, dance force, csf, attend confirmation classes, and choir all at once but you'll pull through. How exactly, I don't even know how I pulled through to be honest. Good luck with that.

Go to every school dance and all the proms. You'll immensely regret that one time you didn't go to one. You'll never be as young as you were in those blissful moments so have fun with your crazy and goofy dance moves. Live life in the moment. You don't need a man to slow dance with. Just seductively and awkwardly do the macarena with your gal pals in a small circle at every school dance. This will become a hilarious new tradition for years to come.

Realize that certain people come into your life for chapters. Some chapters will be years long and others will be 4 months long. Everybody plays a role in the story that is your life. Don't be sad some characters leave. They're gone #FORREALZIES they served their purpose.

People hurt you, it happens just learn how to pick yourself up quickly. You don't have time to slack off. Life doesn't just stop because you got hurt.

Here's my twosense about relationships. (Get ready for the clichés). They are beautiful, just not right now; you're much too young and immature and even now as I am writing this I believe you're still too young and naive. But might I say liking someone is the best feeling in the world. Cloud 9 is an actual thing. Suddenly all the love songs are about them. They are the first thing you think of when you wake up. Whenever you text them you can't help but smile like a psycho.

Don't worry there is also a beautiful side to breakups and that is finding yourself and seeing your self worth. Your girl squad will be there to help piece yourself back together. Also they are going to be all the co-authors to the most important text messages of your highschool career. Ice cream, chocolate, romance movies, spontaneous dancing, and music are all fantastic analgesics for the post breakup feels. Especially after a fictional character dies and you are in denial for years. (By the way, you're still not over The Fault in our Stars.)

Frends ah friends, you'll meet some good ones and you'll certainly meet people that will be in your life forever.

As a teenager I've noticed something I didn't notice as a child at all. Life is bitter. I've learned that you're the one who has to make things sweet again. You control how much sugar is going into your bitter concoction. Certain people come into your life and they can make it sour, sweet or even add onto the bitterness. The point is that you're the catalyst in your concoction. Essentially your words and actions drive it all. So do put some thought into it and think things through. Instead of causing a sour argument that causes goosebumps making your mouth pucker and leaving your tongue sour for a while, be the bigger man. You'll thank yourself later. There are so many times that I regret saying the stupidest little remarks and comments pertaining to something so insignificant. There is a point in your life that you have to reach to understand and grasp this concept. It won't be easy at all, it'll take months even years. I wish I could understand these things now.

I just remembered please oh please get an ID before you're 18 or take the behind the wheel test. Trust me, getting a full body pat down at a Houston airport is not fun.

With this I leave you go live your life because no matter what mistakes are committed, you can pick yourself back up. Have fun!

Best wishes,

Diana
